Sonja Verpoort is a Toronto-based, Canadian screenwriter.

Salem’s Diary

Sonja’s most recent project is Salem’s Diary, a feature film. Salem’s Diary, was one of two Canadian winners in WEP Productions’ 2021 JETS competition in Berlin.

Salem’s Diary was also a short listed finalist in the 2020 Screencraft Drama Competition.

After her diary is doctored and anonymously leaked online, a high school senior finds herself in the middle of a much larger conspiracy and must figure out who is framing her for the tragic death of another student and why.

Dinner with Bernice 

The short film she wrote and produced, Dinner with Bernice, was an official selection of the 2018 Toronto Shorts International Film Festival:

A woman’s plans to win her boss over and get a promotion come to a screeching halt when her elderly neighbour dies in her kitchen mere minutes before her boss arrives.

End of Days (or The E.O.D.)

Her television pilot, End of Days, was the Pilot Screenplay Competition Winner at the 2017 Atlanta Film Festival and was a finalist in the 2016 ISA Fast Track Competition

End of Days was also a semifinalist in the Screencraft Screenwriting Fellowship.

Shortly after Gemma Sharp turns 18, she discovers that not only is she adopted, but that her biological parents are the terrifying leaders of the ‘End of Days’ cult who believe she is the key to their salvation (and to summoning the Apocalypse).

Revolution 10

Revolution 10, the interactive screenplay she is developing with Scarlet Lens Productions, was an Official Selection in the 2017 Beverly Hills Film Festival:

After waking up in the middle of a forest with no memory of who he is or how he got there, Sal uses his gut instinct and the only piece of ID in his wallet to try to string together what happened to him. 

The world Sal wakes up in is divided into two factions: the Corporation and the Suburbanites. The CEO of the Corporation, Eddie King, is the official autocratic head of society, while the radical leader of the Suburbanites, Evelyn Calliot, is the face of the rebellion.

Evelyn and her team of dissidents operate underground, working diligently to overthrow the Corporation and bring freedom back to the people currently oppressed by the Corporation’s iron rule. Or so they claim…

With the help of his colleague and trusted friend, Cassandra, Sal must figure out who is the telling the truth, who’s playing him, who erased his memory, and most pressingly – why.
